Final Blog posting: "Rockville Centre" wikipedia article

For my wikipedia article “Rockville Centre” my major contributions consisted of discussing the school district within my hometown. I created this section titled “Rockville Centre School District” within my first edit which has remained unchanged by the wikipedia community. I had just provided basic information which comprised of a list of the names of the public schools from the elementary level to the high school. My second edit to this article also helped develop the section “Rockville Centre School District” by providing a link to the school districts homepage. This addition has also remained unchanged. As far as my third edit, I had made a small grammatical correction within the article by correcting the spelling of Rockville Centre. Many people spell centre wrong by placing the “r” after the “e”.
For the most part this article is pretty active within the wikipedia community. It is fairly well developed with a rich history overview, but a lot of important information can continue to be developed. There hasn’t been may major changed to the article since February but there have been many small edits and additions that should help the article grow.

Final Blog posting: "Seawane Country Club" Wikipedia Article

For the Wikipedia article “Seawane Country Club”, I was the creator of this page. This article had generated the most feedback from the community out of all four of my chosen articles. After I made my first post of providing some basic information about the club and giving contact information about the club, I found that the article was deleted by the community. The reason that was provided for this was because they stated that the article was not objective and had a slanted bias. I wasn’t exactly sure why the wikipedia community had felt this way because the information was very straight forward and neutral in my mind. So for my second article I re-posted the same information by listing what the club offered, where it was located and some contact information. To my surprise the article remained unbothered and I have not had a problem with the article since. For my third edit to this article I had provided a link to the County clubs home website in order to provide the community a resource for more information.
As far as the development of the article, I was the only one to contribute to the article since this topic only applies to people who know of the place. I am not surprised by this because it is a private club and a lot of the members are very old. So I would not imagine a lot of the members would be active wikipedia community members. It will be interesting to see if the article will remain stagnant in the future since I will no longer be updating the article.

Final Blog Posting: New York Mets wikipedia Article

Similar to my other article “New York Yankees” the “New York mets” had a well developed and mature article. The information covering the team was very extensive reaching from its origins in 1957 to the present day.
For my first edit to the article, I added a few sentences on how the Mets acquired Toms Seaver, who is one of the best pitchers in the history of the game. I added “Even though the Mets remained in last place, Tom Seaver was a sign of good fortune to come. He was originally signed by the Atlanta Braves in February 1966 out of the University of Southern California, but his contract was voided by Commissioner William D. Eckert on the basis that the USC season had already started when Seaver signed. In order to resolve this issue, the Mets, Indians, and Phillies were all placed in a hat since they were the only teams willing to match the Braves offer, and the Mets were fortunate enough to win the drawing”. Since I posted this edit, it has remained in the article unchanged. I had expected this since it is an important part of their history and is accurate.
For my second edit in the section titled “1996-2004: Piazza, Bobby V, and the Subway Series" I added another statistic in MLB history that during the 2002 season Al Leiter became the only pitcher to defeat all thirty teams in the majors. For the most part this edit had stayed but the wikipedia community removed my second portion of the sentence saying that Al Leiter was at the end of his career.
For my third and final edit, I commented on the Mets most recent season, which is the most evolving section of this article to date. I stated that the Mets should be battling the Atlanta Braves all season for the division lead since they are both strong teams and off to great starts. However this edit was completely removed. I am not sure why this was removed because I felt it was an objective statement.
In general the article is mainly developing in the sections that apply to current times. This mainly deals with the section discussing the current season and the plans for the new stadium.

Final Blog Posting: New York Yankees Wikipedia Article

When I first began working on my first wikipedia article “New York Yankees”, the article was already well developed containing a lot of information. So for my edits, I decided to add relevant facts to the history of the team that weren’t already included. The first edit that I made listed a couple of accomplishments of Babe Ruth in the section titled “The Ruth and Gehrig era and the Stadium (1923-1935)”. The information that I posted actually remained but was altered a little. The facts of Babe Ruth that I added were that he accumulated 2,213 RBIs over his career which ranks second in Major League History, and totaled 1,971 as a Yankee which is second best in the Yankees team history". These facts remained in the wikipedia article but the grammars of the sentences were altered slightly by adding parenthesis.
For my second Edit I also added another statistic from Yankee history that remained. My edit stated that Roger Clemens achieved his 300th win and 4000th strikeout in the same game which was placed in the articles section titled “The 21st century (2001-Present)”. This edit had remained unchanged since I wrote it in and is still there.
For my third and final edit I contributed to the latest section called “The 21st century (2001-Present)” by stating that the Yankees had resigned Roger Clemens to a tremendous deal. My edit had been altered by the community since I made the edit right after the transaction occurred in real life and didn’t have all of the details at the time. As more information was revealed about the topic, someone added more insight by stating that the signing was technically a minor league contract and indicated the worth of the contract. This has been the most recent information added to the article since this only occurred a couple of weeks ago.
As far as the development of the entire article, most of the new additions come at the end of the article that deals with the current Yankees 2007 season. Any revisions before the current season’s section are just grammatical corrections since this area is already very mature. I would consider this article pretty active since a lot of people are interested in the Yankees.

Comment #2 on teamate Danielle's Blog

In response to Danielles post about learning HTML, I agree that the material is a little boring. However, how useful is it today to actually know how to use HTML? There are many programs available today such as NVU, Microsoft Homepage, and Deamweaver that will create great looking hompages for you in a much easier fashion. By using these programs, you don't have to worry about codes and minute details that can literally drive you crazy when creating a website. this post refers to Danielle post titled "Class material:HTML", which was created on Friday May 11, and can be accessed here

Reaction #4 to required Blog List

From Slashdot, there was a very perverted blog posting that indicated that a 54 year old German man was getting involded with porn through the use of Avatars. This is very disturbing sincenew technologies are continually being used for malicious intent. Avatars now provide sick individuals such as this man a means to covering up his true identity in order to trick younger women and perform these heinous acts. The article was titled "Germans Pursuing Kiddie Porn In Second Life" and can be found here.

Edit #3 to "New York Yankees" article

For my third and final post to the wikipedia article "New York Yankees", I updated the most current news about the team that Roger Clemens had signed a new contract with the team on sunday and is expected to play in early June. This is tremendous news for Yankee fans since he is still very dominant. For my edit, I wrote "The Yankees signed Clemens to a tremendous deal that equates $28 million on a prorated basis from the first day he is added to the Yankees' Major League roster. Many question how much he will be able to help the Yankees win a World series since he is currently 44 years old, but Roger Clemens made it clear that winning a championship is the only reason he is coming back." This edit was placed at the end of the section labeled "The 21st century (2001-Present)".

For my fourth and final post on class maerial, I would like to comment on the article we read in class "how digg.com is democratizing the news". I think the democratization of the news is a great, and unique idea that does have a lot of potential. I think it helps solve the current news problem today that it is very uniform, and owned by a few large firms. This gives the news a chance to be published by people and should shed new light on different subjects. Also using RSS feeds to filter news that interests any one person can also be very convienent. However I do agree with some of the critics that bashed this idea in the article. It will be interesting to see if digg does begin to shape into a tabloid type publication. Those types of stories are entertaining and may dominate the popular front page if they get the most hits.

Edit #3 to "New York Mets" wikipedia article

For my third and final edit to the wikipedia article "New York Mets", I added a breif update on how the mets are performing in the current 2007 series. In the section titled "2005-present: Minaya takes the reins", I added the line "From the looks of the first month of the season, the Mets and Braves should batteling all season for the top spot in the National league East Division".

From Diva Marketing, toby worote an interesting article called "Crisis Management in the Year 2007 and beyond". This article addresses the issue of rapidly notifying people during an emergency in the most effective and efficient mannor. This article was spurred by the tragedy that occued at Virginia Tech, and one possible solution that she had mentioned was devising a text messaging system that could contact students on campus. I have heard of this type of system before and think it is a great idea. Text messaging is easy, fast, and nearly everyone has cell phones. I know companies are also starting to implement this communication median in case of an emergency. My dad who works for Avaya, had told me his company implemented a text messaging notification system in case of emergency as well since they all have corporate cellphones.

Edit #3 to "Rockville Centre" wikipedia article

For my third and final edit to the wikipedia article "Rockville Centre", I made a small gramatical correction in the section labeled "Miscellaneous Facts". A previous contributor had spelled Rockville Centre wrong by having the "e" before the "r" in centre.
